down with love?

love…cinta…ai…amour…amore…

one simple word, and yet…how powerful. it brings a whole host of meanings, emotions and memories. it brings out the best in people…or the worst. it can make you feel the happiest person on earth…or the loneliest in the entire universe. sometimes, it is taken for granted…you’ll never know what you’ve lost until the person that you love is not there for you anymore.

there's even a day dedicated to celebrating love…valentine’s day. but is there ever a day do celebrate “singledom” or bachelorhood? a day to celebrate all who are single and don’t have a “significant other”? probably not…since companies like hallmark and memory lane won’t be able to cash in on its commercialism!

think about it…valentine’s day is probably an industry itself, what with the millions of cash spent on this day! flowers, chocolate, cards, stuffed animals, jewellery, candlelight dinner…and many other gifts. i remember reading it in a storybook that valentine’s day is “the one day where guys can express love for their girlfriend without being called a wuss”. not too sure if this still applies to 21st century guys, especially the “metrosexuals”. heh…

if you haven’t already figured out why i'm being anti-valentine’s day, it’s pretty obvious isn’t it? i'm just feeling a little un-loved because i'm no longer part of a “couple”. it's already been half a year, but the pain still feels as raw as though the breakup happened yesterday. seems pathetic how in my moments of loneliness a wave of memories can suddenly hit me…or how something small can trigger a flood of emotions.

will my heart ever heal? only time will tell. after all…isn’t there a saying that goes “it’s better to have lived and loved, than to never have loved at all”?
