a convenience that becomes an inconvenience

i was at a petrol station one saturday night and needed to withdraw money from the atm machine. so i used my public bank atm card to withdraw money from the cimb bank machine. my "request" was rejected and my card was returned without any atm slip.

a few days later, i happened to check my public bank online account. imagine my surprise when i saw that my "rejected request" actually went through, and $1 was charged for the withdrawal.

i tried emailing public bank but i didn't get any reply. (this is where i think public bank's customer service needs to really, really buck up.) dad advised me to go to the bank where i opened by account, so i did.

when i approached the customer service lady and explained my problem, she handed me a form to submit my complaint and said it wasn't the first time she had received such a complaint. other customers had complained about the same problem whenever they tried to withdraw money from the atms at petrol stations, which is why she avoids doing that if possible.

thankfully, the money that was "withdrawn" from my account was "returned". moral of the story? avoid withdrawing money from the atm at petrol stations unless it's really necessary
